Get an occupational therapy or social work assessment for your disabled child
Get an occupational therapy or social work assessment for your disabled child, up to 18.
Two related services from the same team:
- Occupational therapy - looking at needs around bathing, seating, toilet use, sleep, and moving around, plus home changes like ramps and step-free showers.
- Social work - if your Family Hub or Early Help Services can't meet the need first, a social worker carries out an assessment under the law (Section 17 of the Children Act 1989).
For children and young people up to 18 with a severe physical disability, moderate/severe learning disability, sensory impairment, complex health needs, or autism with a moderate/severe learning disability.

- Social work - if support can't be met through your local Family Hub or Early Help Services first, a social worker completes an assessment under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989.
How to apply
All referrals go through the Multi-Agency Screening Team (MAST) - young people, carers/family, GPs, health visitors, hospital staff, local authority staff and other NHS services can all refer.
